According to Forbes’ 20th annual ranking, which was released on Tuesday, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, has earned the esteemed title of the most powerful woman in Africa.

In the esteemed Most Powerful Women in the World list, this notable Nigerian woman achieved the 87th rank, surpassing Mpumi Madisa, a businesswoman from South Africa, who secured the 88th spot.

The global ranking also included well-known Nigerian media magnate and philanthropist Mo Abudu at 98th place and President Samia Hassan of Tanzania at 93rd.

As of 2023, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission for Impactful Policy and Budget, is ranked as the most powerful woman in the world.

The president of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, is ranked second, while the vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris, is ranked third. These rankings highlight the significant effect that these powerful women have on the world stage in the domains of politics, business, and the media.
