A lady and her nine-day-old child perished in a tragic incident that happened on Wednesday in the Ondo State capital of Akure when a water reservoir crashed onto their building in the Ayedun Area.
Punch said that the victims, who were supposedly asleep in the room of the now-collapsed building, were going to die soon after the catastrophe.
Less than a day had passed since the baby’s christening when the catastrophe occurred.

An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, described the horrific event in heartbreaking detail. She said that a full water reservoir next to the building collapsed, killing the sleeping mother and child.
It was also revealed that the sad incident resulted in injuries to other building tenants.
“The water reservoir fell on the building while the woman and her child were sleeping.
Before the neighbors reached the scene and managed to evacuate the victims, it was too late,” the eyewitness explained.
The dead were removed from the scene as soon as possible and taken to an Akure hospital mortuary that was not publicly known.

The state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, has confirmed that an inquiry is in progress, and the local police have recognised the incident.
“We have commenced an investigation into the matter,” stated the PPRO, expressing the official commitment to unraveling the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
