The Supreme Court has overturned the Court of Appeal’s judgement clearing Nnamdi Kanu of all charges of treason against him and declaring him not guilty. Kanu is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The supreme court ruled that even though he was forcibly returned to Nigeria from Kenya after he violated his bail conditions, the trial court was still entitled to proceed with his trial.
The judgement was delivered Friday morning by the apex court.

This ruling comes in the wake of a previous judgment by the court of appeal on October 13, 2022, which ordered the release of Mr. Kanu.
As reported by People’s Gazette, the three-member panel in the appellate court unanimously rejected a 15-count terrorism charge that the government had filed against the IPOB leader in the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.
