UPDATE: Peter Obi Salutes Funke Akindele For Making History With ‘A Tribe Called Judah’

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate on February 25th, has praised Nollywood actress Funke Akindele for her remarkable performance in the popular movie “A Tribe Called Judah.”

After opening in theatres and earning N1 billion in three weeks, the film broke box office records and became the first Nollywood production to do so.

In his praise, which he posted on his X profile on Saturday, Obi emphasised how the movie depicted the complex struggles that many underprivileged families in Nigeria face as they try to survive.

He tweeted, “It is heartwarming to learn that ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ a movie by Nigerian Movie Producer, @funkeakindele, has achieved a record-breaking earning of N1 billion in just 3 weeks of its release,” adding that the feat was a “historic moment in our Nigerian movie industry.”

The achievements of accomplished actresses and film producers have reinforced the fact that Nollywood has continuously distinguished itself as one of Nigeria’s “major exports” during the past 10 years, as stressed by the former governor of Anambra State.

“Nollywood remains one of the biggest exports of our country in the last decade and shows the inherent potential in our people, which Akindele has copiously brought out in all her works. I congratulate Funke Akindele for achieving this feat, which is a bold testament to her passion, hard work, and dedication in the movie industry,” he stated.

He gave Akindele acclaim for the box office triumphs of her previous films, “Battle on Buka Street” and “Omo Ghetto,” which are currently ranked second and third in Nigeria.

Furthermore, Obi emphasised that her most recent film, “A Tribe Called Judah,” explores the complex challenges faced by many impoverished families in Nigeria as they fight to survive.
