Tinubu Approved N3bn for Social Register Verification, Gbajabiamila’s Leaked Memo Reveals

Additional information about the scandal involving Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, has been made available via a leaked memo that came from the Chief of Staff’s office.

According to the paper, Bola Tinubu approved a N3 billion contract for the National Social Register Verification programme, which was started by Muhammadu Buhari’s previous administration.

The document, dated September 18 and signed by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, verifies Tinubu’s approval of the N3 billion COVID-19 Palliative Fund expenditure.

The document was titled “CONVEYANCE OF APPROVAL; RE: APPEAL TO USE N3,000,000,000.00 (THREE BILLION NAIRA) FROM THE COVID-19 PALLIATIVE FUND FOR VERIFICATION OF THE NATIONAL SOCIAL REGISTER.”

“The above subject refers. 2. Please be informed that Tinubu has approved the expenditure of N3,000,000,000.00 (Three Billion Naira) only, from the Covid-19 Palliative Fund for verification of the National Social Register. 3. Please accept the assurance of my highest regards. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President,” it read.

It was discovered that a large number of businesses benefited from this contentious agreement. Among them is New Planet Project Limited, a business owned by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo that brought in an incredible N438.1 million for consulting services.

Fabunmi Olanipekun & Co. won N419.5 million, while Vintsolve Global Consult took N558.8 million. Smaller businesses that benefited from the N3 billion windfall included Periscope Consulting, Blue Trend Enterprise, Laitop Dynamics Interlink Services, Memak Nigeria Limited, MC Van Management Consult Limited, and Danzinger Nigeria Limited.

Additionally, it is alleged that Edu approved the N585 million transfer of public cash into a project manager’s private account within her ministry. Furthermore, it has been alleged that the minister authorised airline tickets and airport taxis for her group visiting Kogi State, even though lacking an airport.

Since then, Tinubu has suspended Edu.
