From 2015 to 2019, Senator Shehu Sani, a member of the National Assembly representing Kaduna Central, voiced his worries on the increasing insecurity that has afflicted the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a tweet by Sani, a vocal critic of the government’s handling of the security situation in the nation, Abuja was meant to be a peaceful and comfortable place for the elites, but the troubles in other parts of the country have now spread to the city. Recently, the capital city of Nigeria, Abuja, has seen an increase in kidnappings and attacks by armed groups.

“Abuja was intended or assumed to be a heaven of peace and an oasis of comfort for the elites. The troubles in other parts of the country have now crept in Abuja can only be safe if the whole country is safe,” he tweeted on Monday.

Ten people were kidnapped on Sunday at Sagwari Estate Layout in Dutse, Bwari Area Council. Three of the victims are said to have died after the gunmen increased their demand for ransom from N60 million to N100 million per person.

The same day, nine adults and two children were abducted from Gbaupe hamlet, which is located behind Aco Estate on Airport Road. 22 persons were abducted in Kawu Village, Bwari Area Council, on Thursday.

These cases came after a slew of assaults and threats by Islamist and other armed groups near Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, which have instilled dread and apprehension among citizens in the FCT and across the country.
