Grand Funeral: Nnewi Traditional Ruler Honors Late Mother With Lavish Farewell (Photo)

In a regal spectacle, His Highness, Obi George Onyekaba (Obidiugwu), the traditional ruler of Nnewichi, bid farewell to his mother, Lolo Celina Udeaku Onyekaba (Nee Anagwi), in a stylish funeral on January 16, 2024.

Nnewichi, in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, witnessed a convergence of dignitaries from various spheres of life who gathered to pay their respects to the late Queen Mother. Grateful for the overwhelming support, Obi George Onyekaba expressed gratitude and extended prayers for the safety and well-being of all attendees.

The 98-year-old late Queen Mother, known for her peaceable nature and kindness, received heartfelt tributes from family members. The funeral, held at St. Marks Anglican Church, Nnewichi, with a stopover at Oraifite, her hometown, culminated in interment at her husband’s residence, the Nnewichi palace.

Prominent figures, including HRH Igwe Kenneth Orizu (III) CON, traditional ruler of Nnewi, HH Obi Bennett Okafor of Umudim, HH Obi Afam Charles Obi (Ogidi IV) of Uruagu and Hon. Augustine Ike, the Anambra State House of Assembly representative for Nnewi North, graced the occasion. Notable attendees also included business moguls such as Chief Innocent Okoli of Organiser Oil and Chief Medical Director of NAUTH Prof. David Ugboajah.

Lolo Celina’s granddaughter, Onyinye Onyekaba, fondly described her as “resilient” and “lovely.” The condolences poured in, with Hon. Augustine Ike expressing Mama as a mother to all and wishing her peaceful rest. HH Obi Bennett Okafor celebrated Mama’s long life, extending well wishes to the grieving family.

Melodious tunes filled the air as musical groups serenaded the attendees, making it a true celebration of life. The people expressed gratitude for Mama’s impactful role as a mother, wife and Queen Mother, thanking God for the legacy she leaves behind.
