By-Elections: INEC Commence Training Of Electoral Officers

The training programme for the electoral officials entrusted with overseeing the February 3, 2024, nationwide by-elections has been launched by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

As part of the election preparations, the Electoral Institute arranged a Training of Trainers on Thursday, January 18, to kick off the training.

Election officials and ad hoc personnel will be actively receiving instruction from the trainers.

INEC Starts Training For 82 RATECH Officials

The training team consists of TEI trainers as well as representatives from cooperating departments including Electoral Operations and Information Technology, who have come to instruct the trainees on the most recent innovations incorporated into the electoral process. State Training Officers (STOs) also took part in the Zoom Training of Trainers event.

The workshop’s goal, according to Sa’ad Umar Idris, Director General of the Electoral Institute, was to guarantee that participants would be able to plan and carry out thorough and efficient training in all the states that were impacted by the programme by the time it ended.

He stated that at the conclusion of the exercise, those in charge of organising the trainers ought to be able to instruct Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Presiding Officers, and Assistant Presiding Officers (POs/APOs) on how to bill and count.

They should also become acquainted with using the BVAS and be able to use the INEC Results Viewing Device (IREV) to post election results to the INEC Result portal.

The Director-General underlined again how crucial it was to concentrate on the training, which was intended to improve their abilities and help raise the nation’s voting process’s legitimacy.

He outlined some of the technological advancements the Institute has made to the electoral process, like the INEC Training Bot and E-learning platforms, which were used in the 2023 General Elections to enhance election staff training and capacity building.

He advised the instructors to stress the need of using these E-platforms during the training sessions in their respective states.
