UPDATE: Buhari Set Nigeria Five Decades Backward – Edwin Clark

Chief Edwin Clark, the leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, claimed that during his eight years in office, former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration brought the nation back fifty years.

According to Clark, the Buhari government was a complete failure, lacking direction, rife with insecurity, and it saw an economic catastrophe, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

The comment was issued by the senior state official in reaction to the release of Femi Adesina’s book, “Working with Buhari: Reflections of A Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023),” which was written by Buhari’s previous Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

Five volumes of a different book named “Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian Legacy, 2015-2023” were presented with the book.

In a statement dated Thursday, January 18, 2024, Clark criticised the former President for touting his accomplishments during the book launch, pointing out that this went against the public’s assessment of his presidency.

Clark said, “What struck me most was the attitude and statement of former President Buhari, who eulogised his achievements as President of the country during the occasion. This, I must say, is contrary to the assessment of the majority of Nigerians of his administration.

“To most of us as Nigerians, Muhammadu Buhari failed abysmally as President. His administration was full of insecurity, economic collapse, injustice, religious bigotry and lack of direction. The eight years of his administration plunged Nigeria and Nigerians five decades backwards. Even his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noted as much in his speech at the time when Buhari was eulogising himself.”

Clark claimed that the eight years President Buhari was in government were unfair, biassed, and nepotistic, calling it “a period of complete and total retrogression.”
