Terrorists have launched a fresh attack on the Agu-Amede community, which is close to Eha-Amufu in the Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

One person died and a house was set on fire during this most recent event, which occurred on Sunday, January 21, 2024, between the Agu-Amede communities of Odoba and Isi Agbuhu, according to reports.

Community leader Ephraim Ogbu confirmed the attack to SaharaReporters on Monday.

The most recent victim, according to him, is “Ikechukwu Odomi from Isi Agbuhu Agu Amede.” Ogbu revealed that in addition to targeting Ikechukwu, terrorists also set fire to Chibuike Olinya’s home in the community of Odoba Agu Amede.

Amazingly, Olinya managed to avoid the attack. Ogbu went on to say that, even though the attack lasted for hours, none of the soldiers deployed to Eha-Amufu nor any other security agency responded to the incident.

“Our people provided timely information to both military and police. The soldiers only told us that they were on patrol, and they didn’t come. What we don’t know is whether the soldiers are here to protect the bandits?” he asked.

He expressed sadness over the fact that, since late last year, Fulani bandits—who now possess a large amount of their farmland—continue to attack and hurt their community without encountering any resistance from law enforcement.

He said, “The burning of a bungalow newly completed and finished occurred in the early hours in Odoba village. The bandits supervised and ensured that nothing was salvaged in the house.

“Ikechukwu Odomi from Isi Agbuhu was taking his in-law back to his house when he met the bandits on the road. He abandoned his vehicle and ran into the bush. They pursued him and set the bush ablaze and killed him. His in-law escaped when they were pursuing him. That only saved the woman.”

“The bandits come into the community at will, kill and burn houses,” he lamented.

Newsmen reported on a new incident that occurred on January 3, 2024, in which attackers—possibly herders—attacked the Agu-Amede hamlet in the state’s Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.

Sadly, while celebrating Christmas, the assault claimed the lives of two young guys.

According to earlier allegations from SaharaReporters, there had been major attacks in 2021 and 2022 in Eha-Amufu town and the nearby settlements of Agu-Amede, Mgbuji, and Abor.

Benue State militants and Fulani herders were thought to be the culprits.

Over 152 people were killed in the attacks, and it is estimated that over 20 agricultural villages were targeted, resulting in significant property destruction from arson.

SaharaReporters made numerous attempts to reach DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the state police command, but to no avail. There were no answers to calls, and when someone texted him, there was no response.
