“You Lost In Lagos” – Ndume Warns Tinubu of CBN Relocation to Lagos

Bola Tinubu has received warnings from Senator Ali Ndume, the 10th Senate’s chief whip, regarding the proposed move of some CBN divisions and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) headquarters to Lagos State.

Representative for Borno South Senatorial District Ndume, who made the statement on Channels TV on Wednesday, called Tinubu and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), politically vulnerable and said the action was foolish.

He charged that Tinubu was being duped by a few “Lagos boys” who are ignorant of the federal system of governance and other regions of the nation.

He stated, “Some of them think that they know better than everybody. But they don’t know anything. When you don’t know Nigeria, you only know Lagos, then you start doing things as if Nigeria is Lagos. Lagos is in Nigeria. That’s a wrong decision.”

According to Ndume, the move of the CBN and FAAN offices will make other regions feel marginalised and threaten Abuja’s standing as the federal capital.

He claimed that because Lagos already had sufficient federal infrastructure and presence, the relocation was not warranted for any operational or fiscal reasons.

He proposed that, rather than far-off Lagos, the optimum location for the offices to be relocated in order to relieve congestion would be Nasarawa, Kaduna, Kogi, or other states near Abuja.

“We will not accept it. Besides, you know, they are not doing any favour to Mr. President, because this will have political consequence. Yes. I’m telling you this,” he said.

Ndume begged Tinubu to change his mind and pay attention to the opinions of Nigerians who are against the move.

He went on to say that Tinubu should never forget that votes from other regions of the nation, particularly the north, were what ultimately propelled him to power rather than those cast in Lagos.
