CHAPOL Anambra State Command Commence Operations In Secondary Schools To Eradicate Social Vices Among Students

In a bid to instill discipline and curb social vices among students, Chaplain Corps Policing Explorers (CHAPOL), Anambra State Command has commenced the 2nd round of the 11th phase of her operations in Anambra State government secondary schools in Anambra State.

Anambra State Commandant CHAPOL, Comdt. Joseph N. Ekwunife who was on ground at Boys High School Nnewi today, to personal monitor the commencement of the school operations addressed the students on the theme: My Future in My Hands. He advised to the students on the need for them to define their future, as that is the easiest way for them to churn social vices like cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, theft, lateness to school, loitering and truancy during school hours among others.

He admonishes the students that the future they intend to lead tomorrow should start now, as no true father transfers leadership to a son who has not equipped himself with necessary qualities for future leadership. Comdt. Ekwunife told our reporter that CHAPOL operations in public secondary schools in Anambra State is in partnership with Anambra State government through the State Ministry of Education and Post-primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) and has been ongoing for the past ten years. He said that their mode of operations in schools centers mainly on character reformation and mentorship as well as ensure that students maintain utmost discipline within and outside the school environment, stating that the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR has charged CHAPOL with responsibility of maintaining zero tolerance for indiscipline in government secondary schools in the State.

The State Commandant CHAPOL commended the Governor of Anambra, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo for the recruitment of 5,000 teachers, declaration of free education from primary 1 to JSS3 in government secondary schools and the ongoing recruitment of another 3,000 teachers.

Comdt. Ekwunife also commended the Governor for providing an enabling environment for CHAPOL to operate freely in schools through the provision of security in Anambra State, stressing that officers of CHAPOL covers all the government secondary schools in the Six Education Zones namely: Awka, Onitsha, Aguata, Nnewi, Ogidi and Otuocha zones. He appealed to the Governor to provide logistics support such as operational vehicles and bikes to CHAPOL as this will go a long way to cushion the severe challenges the Command is facing right now in transporting their officers to schools where they are expected to carry out their operations.

 

The State Commandant also commended the the State Hon. Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-ude and State Chairman, Post-primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Prof. Nkechi Ikedugwu for their unwavering commitment and support to CHAPOL maintaining that this supports has continued to embolden CHAPOL in her operations in schools.

The State Commandant also appreciated their Patrons, Fellows and Partners whom he said their supports has assisted the Command in running her operations in schools for the past ten years. He also appealed to Eminent and very distinguished Anambrarians both home and in diaspora to rally support for CHAPOL Anambra State Command, stressing that such supports will not only help to consolidate on the gains already made by the Command in their fight against moral decadence and other social vices among students of public secondary schools in the State for the past ten years, but will strengthen her to achieve her objective of restoring out youths/teenagers in Anambra State schools to the path of moral rectitude.

On his part, the State Director of School Operations (Monitoring Department) Kingsley Nwashili who accompanied the State Commandant on the visit told our reporter that officers of CHAPOL Anambra State Command remained resolute, undaunted and committed to her resolve to explore all useful avenues in ensuring that all forms of social vices are eradicated from our schools, stressing that the only challenge facing the Command is lack of operational vehicles, bikes and funding.
