In order to promote domestically produced items, particularly textiles, Executive Order 003 of 2017 must be strictly followed, according to a request made to Tinubu by the House of Representatives.

Representative Esosa Iyawe (LP-Edo) made a proposal during an Abuja plenary session, and it was adopted, leading to this outcome.

In his motion, he highlighted the importance of the textile industry as a major force behind economic development in many developing countries, emphasising its significant contribution to Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.

He clarified that, prior to the government, the Nigerian textile sector, which included businesses like Kaduna Textile Ltd. (KTL), United Nigerian Textile Plc, and others, employed the greatest number of workers in the country.

He claimed that Nigerian textile products would continue to be underpriced due to noncompliance with 2017 Executive Order 003 and Nigerians’ preference for inexpensive imported fabrics over local production.

He claimed that this kind of thinking will worsen the state of Nigeria’s textile sector and impede the nation’s economic development.

After passing the motion, the House urged the federal government to make sure Executive Order 003 of 2017 is implemented and that compliance is enforced.

Additionally, it recommended that the federal government launch awareness efforts to educate Nigerians about the advantages of supporting local textile producers.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Immigration Service, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps were among the organisations that the House requested to patronise NUTGTWN.

The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment was also asked by the House to create an atmosphere that would draw in foreign and domestic capital for the purpose of sustainable economic development.
