APC Declare Three Candidates Winner of Edo Primary Election

Three candidates have emerged for the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket in Edo State, throwing the party’s primary contest into turmoil due to contradicting statements.

When the governorship primary committee for Governor Hope Uzodimma first announced Dennis Idahosa as the winner, confusion ensued.

But when Okpebholo was declared the winner of the same poll on Monday by Stanley Ugboaje, the Returning Officer, things became more heated.

Edo Elections: Obasanjo Reacts On Edo Governorship Election

The announcement late on Saturday night by local government returning authorities that Anamero Dekeri, the incumbent representative of the Etsako federal constituency in the House of Representatives, had won with 25,384 votes added to the chaos. Dennis Idahosa received 14,127 votes, more than this, according to the local government’s returning officers.

Due to this extraordinary development, the APC now has three candidates vying for Edo State’s governorship, casting doubt on the validity of the primary process and highlighting internal party strife.

There are questions regarding the party’s capacity to put up a cohesive front in the approaching September 21 gubernatorial election.

The national secretariat of the party has not yet released an official statement regarding the situation.
