Pope Francis Calls for Urgent Action, Prayers Over Kidnappings In Nigeria

The head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has expressed his grave concerns over the rash of kidnappings that are taking place in Nigeria.

The Pope stressed in a tweet on Sunday, February 26, the need to address these upsetting situations immediately, saying, “The increasingly frequent kidnappings in Nigeria are extremely concerning.”

Expressing solidarity and empathy with the Nigerian people, Pope Francis conveyed his prayers for the situation to improve, stating, “I express my closeness in prayer to the Nigerian people, hoping that efforts will be made to contain the spread of these incidents as much as possible.”

The Pope’s words are made at a time when Nigeria is dealing with an upsurge in kidnappings for ransom, with reports suggesting that these crimes are becoming more common across the nation.

These issues have affected even the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as kidnappers target particular estates and border villages, leaving locals distressed and uneasy.
