Amid Viral Photos of Him Kneeling to Greet Tinubu, Gov Bago Urges FG to Censor Social Media

Because of worries over their misuse, Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to impose censorship measures on social media sites.

The governor has made an appeal following the widespread distribution of a photo on social media that showed him kneeling to greet Bola Tinubu.

In expressing his opinions, Governor Bago emphasised the significance of content regulation on these platforms in order to counter false information.

He underlined how important it is to support fair and accurate reporting, especially from traditional media.

At an event where he was acknowledged as the Grand Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, Governor Bago said these things.

In his address, he emphasized journalists’ pivotal role as guardians of society, urging them to uphold objectivity in their reporting.

His words: “As the fourth estate of the realm, journalists should carry out their duties as watchdogs of society and ensure objectivity in their reports.

“I call for the introduction of censorship on social media contents to checkmate the spread of fake news and hate speeches.”
