A strong warning has been issued to non-Muslim people by the Kano State Hisbah Board’s Department of Public Enlightenment on eating in public during Ramadan.

In an interview with AIT.live, the Board’s Director-General, Abba Sai’Idu, delivered this statement.

He emphasised that it is considered illegal for non-Muslims, including Christians, to eat in public or participate in activities that could contradict Islamic customs or entice others who are fasting.

On Monday, March 11, 2024, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, announced the start of Ramadan.

Muslims are obliged to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, having sex, and other behaviours that are forbidden by the Holy Quran during the daytime hours of Ramadan.

Eight women and three men were detained by the Kano State Hisbah Board in 2021 for eating during Ramadan, according to a previous event that was covered by SaharaReporters.
