The international cryptocurrency exchange Binance has reacted to rumours that one of its employees, Nadeem Anjarwalla, has escaped from a Nigerian prison.

Anjarwalla is no longer on Nigerian soil, according to Binance spokesman Samantha Fuller, who verified the information.

Fuller reaffirmed the company’s aggressive cooperation with Nigerian authorities to immediately address the matter, emphasising that the safety and well-being of its employees is its first priority.

The circumstances surrounding Anjarwalla’s release from jail, however, remained undisclosed.

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) responded to the incident by confirming the arrest of one of its officials who was allegedly involved in Anjarwalla’s escape.

The head of ONSA’s strategic communication, Zakari Mijinyawa, claims that initial research suggests Anjarwalla used a smuggled passport to escape Nigeria.

In addition, Mijinyawa revealed that Anjarwalla’s guardians have been detained, and that inquiries are still underway to determine the circumstances surrounding his escape from captivity.

“The personnel responsible for the custody of the suspect have been arrested, and a thorough investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to his escape from lawful detention,” the statement stressed.
