Bola Tinubu stated on Wednesday that the Economic Community of West African States’ drive for democracy has been strengthened by the triumphant presidential elections in Senegal and the general elections in Liberia.
According to Parallel Facts, Diomaye Faye was formally proclaimed the victor of Senegal’s presidential election after receiving official confirmation from the vote counting committee, which was overseen by the judiciary, and garnering 54.28% of the votes in the first round.
The head of ECOWAS, Tinubu, responded to the events by congratulating Mr. Bassirou Faye on becoming the new president of the Republic of Senegal.

He also congratulated President Macky Sall, who is now in office, on overseeing an election that was universally regarded as transparent and peaceful.
President Tinubu extended his congratulations to President-elect Bassirou Dionaye Faye and the citizens of Senegal through a message released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Tinubu said that “President-elect Faye comes with great promise and a sterling record, wishing him success as he takes on this important job of leading the good people of Senegal.”
The successful presidential election in Senegal and the smoothly run general election in Liberia a few months prior, he continued, had confirmed his long-held belief that democracy was deeply ingrained in West Africa and would only become stronger when it was nourished by justice, fairness, and good governance.
