On Monday, the Edo State House of Assembly took a major step forward when it decided to impeach Philip Shaibu, the state’s deputy governor.

This move was made in response to the Assembly’s adoption of the report from the seven-member investigating team that looked into Shaibu’s alleged misbehaviour.

The seven-member panel, chaired by Justice S.A. Omonua, reportedly wrapped up its probe on Friday.

On March 22, 2024, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, the Chief Judge of Edo State, created the panel in response to the Assembly’s vote to look into the petition for the deputy governor’s impeachment. The petition mainly focused on charges of egregious misbehaviour and deceit.
