“Poland Ready to Host ‘Nuclear’ Weapons to Counter Russia,” – President

In reaction to Russia’s transfer of its nuclear weapons to Belarus, the president of Poland declared that his country is prepared to receive the nuclear weapons of other members of the alliance.

These claims were made by President Andrzej Duda during a Monday interview with the newspaper Fakt.

Duda cited President Alexander Lukashenko’s declaration from December to emphasise Russia’s purported transfer of nuclear weapons to Belarus.

In order to strengthen the security of the alliance’s eastern flank, he declared Poland’s readiness to host nuclear weapons as part of NATO’s nuclear sharing system, should ally countries decide to do so.

Duda underlined that Poland is conscious of its obligations to the United States and the other 32 members of the alliance.

Afterwards, Prime Minister Donald Tusk—who concurs with Duda on matters of national security—stated that urgent talks over this plan are required.

Poland’s desire to take part in NATO’s nuclear sharing programme has already been stated by Duda.

Under NATO’s nuclear sharing agreement, the US contributes nuclear weapons to Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey for use in deployment and storage.
