The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially reopened runway 18L/36R for flight operations. This announcement comes after the temporary closure earlier in the day due to an incident involving a Dana Air aircraft registration number 5N-BKI, which overshot the runway during its landing sequence.

According to Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at FAAN, prompt action was taken by the authority’s emergency response team to evacuate and recover the aircraft from the site. Following this, comprehensive clearing operations were conducted to ensure the runway was free of any potential debris that could compromise flight safety.

FAAN’s Operations Division, in collaboration with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), conducted a thorough inspection of the runway surface, affirming its safety for the resumption of operations. An official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to inform relevant parties about the reopening.

Despite challenges posed by the muddy area affected by the overshoot, FAAN ensured thorough and efficient cleaning to facilitate the swift resumption of operations on Runway 18L/36R.
