UPDATE: Tinubu Seeks House of Reps Approval for N24Billion Refund

Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the House of Representatives to approve a N24 billion reimbursement to the state governments of Kebbi and Nasarawa.

This reimbursement is for airport building that has since been assumed by the federal government.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu read a letter from Tinubu to Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during a plenary session. The letter contained Tinubu’s request. The letter said that Kebbi State will receive a refund of over N15 billion and Nasarawa State would receive a refund of N9 billion.

At first, Kebbi State utilised the money to build the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi, while Nasarawa State utilised it to build the Lafia Cargo Airport.

Tinubu underlined that, in accordance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Federal Government is in charge of aviation-related matters, including airports.

The return sums were outlined in Tinubu’s letter as follows: N9,000,542,651.79 for Nasarawa State and N15,137,336,951.88 for Kebbi State on a promissory note.

The letter outlined the details of the refund, stating, “That a promissory note in the sum of N9,000,542,651,786.11 be issued to the Nasarawa State government as a refund for the takeover of the newly constructed Nasarawa Airport, and that a promissory note in the sum of N15,137,336,95.88 only be issued to Kebbi State state government as a refund for the takeover of Bernin Kebbi International Airport.”

In order to make these reimbursements possible, Tinubu pleaded with the House of Representatives to take into account and approve the creation of the promissory notes programme.
