All four of the state’s recently established emirate councils have been disbanded by the Kano State House of Assembly.

After discussions on Thursday’s floor during plenary in the House, the impacted Emirates were dissolved.

The law’s repeal, according to Deputy Speaker Muhammad Butu, will restore Kano’s former splendour because the separation of the Kano emirate into five smaller states diminished the state’s authority and dignity on a national scale.

Alhaji Lawan Dala, the majority leader, claimed that the four new emirates had corrupted the culture that the emirate council was responsible for protecting.

Only the Kano Emirate remained after the four new emirate councils were eliminated due to a legal modification.

The Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law was to be amended, and the House also approved a resolution to establish a new second-class emirate council in the state.

Muhammad Sanusi II, the deposed Emir of Kano, may return as a result of the action.
