Ebonyi State University Student Commits Suicide After Lecturer Failed Her Repeatedly

The final-year student Favour Ugwuka of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) in Abakaliki was discovered dead in her dorm at the Ishieke Campus following a terrible occurrence.

According to reports, Ugwuka, an English Department student, committed himself after failing a specific course multiple times.

The Punch said that Ugwuka had passed every course she had taken, with the exception of one, in which the instructor had purportedly declared she would never pass. It has been suggested that the lecturer’s purported pledge and her ongoing failure are what are making her depressed.

Ugwuka’s distraught mother accuses the instructor in an online video of pushing her daughter towards suicide. “Dr. Enyi said he is the best, that nobody can teach like him,” the mother asserts in the video. He ought to come and carry my daughter who has committed suicide.”

Ugwuka’s dying circumstances have caused indignation and calls for additional investigation into the heartbreaking situation that led to his death.

Rex Nwome, an Ebonyi State University alum, has provided insight into the events leading up to the untimely death of Favour Ugwuka. Nwome claims that Ugwuka committed suicide as a result of failing a specific course repeatedly.

“Favour was my classmate and a best friend in the English Department. The lecturer in question vowed never to allow Favour to graduate,” Nwome recounted.

He clarified that Ugwuka was required to pay an extra year’s tuition to retake the course she continually failed, even though she passed all other classes.

“Unfortunately, the lecturer failed her again. What intensified her depression was the recent release of the NYSC shortlist, which did not include her name,” he said.

Nwome further explained that Ugwuka’s desperation to graduate and participate in the national service led to severe depression.

“She wandered around EBSU seeking help, very desperate to graduate and serve. These challenges and more culminated in her decision to end her life.”

“I wish she hadn’t gone to such lengths to end her life. R.I.P. Ugwuka Favour, until we meet again,” Nwome added.
