UPDATE: Aircraft Carrying Malawi Vice-President, Nine Others Goes Missing

According to a statement from the president’s office, an aeroplane carrying Saulos Chilima, the vice president of Malawi, and nine other people has vanished.

The aircraft of the Malawi Defence Force disappeared from radar on Monday morning after taking off from the nation’s capital, Lilongwe.

Aviation officials tried to get in touch with the aircraft, but they were unable. A search and rescue effort has been launched by President Lazarus Chakwera.

The plane was scheduled to land just after 10:00 local time on its way to Mzuzu International Airport in the north of the nation.

After learning of the incident, President Chakwera cancelled his scheduled flight to the Bahamas.
