One of the leading mobile telecommunication service providers in Nigeria, MTN, has finally decided to change her logo after some years, I believe you may have seen it. The telecom giant, which became operational in 1994 in South Africa and a household name in many African countries before 2005, owing to her ability to make her presence felt in Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, had operated all through with her popular logo that the brand is known with before now.

Following her popularity in Nigeria and other parts of Africa, the service provider’s slogan of “Everywhere You Go” became a dream come true, as you may call it. The telecom boss was recently announced to have been at the fore of the launch of 5G Network in Nigeria. The said 5th Generation Network, which many are still scared of, has been approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Airtel is another brand that is fully in for the 5G.

Nevertheless, not many people would ever guess that MTN has other plans. The new logo, which is to be launched on 27th February, 2022, has said it all. A statement released by the telecom giant explains that the new logo aligns with her vision for the future tagged ” Vision 2025″. A high-ranking officer of the organisation Nompilo Morafo, further explained that the step is necessary, as the company seeks to move from being a telecom company to being a technological one.

A “mere” text written on oval-shaped design seems so simple a design for such a multi-billion naira telecom group. This assumption is validated by many social users who have slammed the designer of the new logo for collecting huge amount of money yet producing something so easy and simple that could easily be done by a rookie designer. Other users opined that MTN may have paid quite little for the design, making the designer produce something quite easy.

Howbeit, the explanation given by the company should have laid other opinions to rest. Instead of the usual “Everywhere You Go”, the company has just opted for “Y’ello” as her new slogan. The new logo has been seen in the Middle East, though it is yet to be seen in South Africa, the country of the group’s boss, and where it all began. Recall that the company just offered shares to the public and may still offer more here in  Nigeria. That is a possible indication of how large the vision it has for the 2025, as it has explained, is.

Notwithstanding, as Nigerians we await MTN’s vision and are determined to support it fully, if it is worthwhile. The company has come to stay. It has proven to be reliable for about two decades of existence in Nigeria.
