Bello Ahmed, a 28-year-old man, has admitted to kidnapping his girlfriend, Hannah Queen, in Apo Estate in Abuja in order to gather funds for their traditional wedding.

On March 26, 2022, the suspect reportedly planned with Ibrahim Mohammed, 30; Bilyamiyu Mohammed, 30; and Uche Daniel, 34, to kidnap his lover.

In Dubai, United Arab Emirate, the victim, a lawyer and the daughter of a diplomat, met the suspect.

Five Wedding Guests Kidnapped In Anambra

After the victim’s uncle, ACP Yusuf Sanni, submitted a complaint at the IRT Headquarters in Guzape, the suspects were detained by agents from the Force Intelligence Bureau’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

The defendants were detained for criminal conspiracy and kidnapping in connection with the well-coordinated kidnapping, according to the police.

In his statement, the suspect claimed that the victim put him under pressure to raise money for their traditional marriage.

He said, “My lover put so much pressure on me to marry her. So, I was forced to kidnap her to raise the money I needed. I regret my involvement in the act as I couldn’t get the money. I expected that I will be paid the ransom.”

Investigation revealed that the incident took place in Abuja in the three bedroom apartment rented by the suspect. The victim had gone to visit her lover and was relaxing in the living room when the three other accomplice who were already in the apartment appeared and took them into captivity.

Bello pretended that he had sent N10m to the kidnappers for their release through a fake bank alert, until the victim discovered the antics and started calling her parents for her release.

The key suspect confessed that they expected a total of N50m as ransom from the parents of the victim so that the gang would get up to at least N10m each.

Exhibits recovered from the the suspects include a hack saw, two masks, one beret cap, one masking tape and one iPhone.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba has directed the police officers to perform a thorough investigations and make sure justice served.
