The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its leadership are said to be uneasy as a result of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s continued silence in the wake of the nomination of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.

According to report, the main opposition in the South is likewise split about who will be the running partner.

According to a source who spoke to the publication, the PDP is uneasy about Wike’s quiet and refusal to meet with Atiku and his representatives, particularly in light of the Labor Party’s and the APC’s growing resistance.

Wike is a powerful political force, according to some sources close to him, and should not be undercut.

“If you watch very carefully you will find out that the governor’s private residence has become a beehive of activities with high profile politicians visiting. First to visit was David Umahi of Ebonyi State followed by Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi and Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State. The visits by these top politicians show that Wike is a strong force in the Nigerian political equation,” he said.

According to the source, Atiku and his supporters dispatched the governor of Bauchi State to urge Wike to stay in the PDP while the governors of Ebonyi and Obi visited to see how they could persuade Wike to join their political organizations.

The southern region has become more polarized as a result of the selection of Okowa. Party chieftains are alleged to have flatly rejected Atiku’s decision in Rivers, Cross River, Enugu, Abia, Oyo, and Ekiti, in contrast to those in states like Delta, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Anambra, and Imo.

However, it has been heard that a meeting between Atiku and Wike is expected to occur before the Osun State governorship election on July 16.
