Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag stated that Cristiano Ronaldo conducted the interview with Piers Morgan because he wanted to leave the club in any way possible.

Ronaldo stated in an interview aired on TalkTV last month that he felt deceived by the Old Trafford club and did not respect Ten Hag.

United canceled the 37-year-contract old’s just days after the final installment was revealed.

“He wanted to leave, it was quite clear. And when a player definitely doesn’t want to be in this club then he has to go.

“The interview was the first time he said he wanted to leave. I think as a club you can’t accept that. To make that step, he knew the consequences.

“In the summer we talked. He came in and said, ‘I will tell you in seven days if I want to stay’. Then he came back and said, ‘I want to stay’,” Ten Hag told British media on Friday.

At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Ronaldo is also having disagreements with his national team coach, Fernando Santos.

Santos benched his captain for their last-16 match against Switzerland, citing his displeasure with his behavior when he was substituted.
