Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, has urged the federal government to free Nnamdi Kanu, the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stating he is willing to serve as surety for him.

Kanu was hauled back to Nigeria from Kenya in 2021 and has been held in the Department of State Service’s (DSS) custody ever since on suspicion of a treasonable offense.

At the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) general election campaign launch in Awka’s Alex Ekwueme Square, Soludo called for the IPOB leader’s immediate and unconditional release.

He said: “I am making a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally. If he cannot be released unconditionally, I want him bereleased to me and I will stand surety for him”

“We need Nnamdi Kanu in the roundtable conversation to discuss the insecurity in the South East. We must end insecurity in the South East and we need Nnamdi Kanu to be around.”

In exchange for being given Kanu, Soludo agreed to take care of him and to bring him to the authorities whenever necessary.

Kanu was initially charged on December 23, 2015, and on April 25, 2017, he was released on bail.
