The Federal Government has been requested to extend the January 31 deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria to stop accepting old naira notes by the Kano State Government and Islamic clerics from the Tijjaniyya, Qadiriyya, and Izala sects in the state.
The call followed the decision of a meeting held on Thursday at the Government House by the state governor Ganduje, senior government officials, and Islamic clerics.

The meeting highlighted that economic activity had been halted in Kano due to hardship brought on by the lack of the new naira notes, according to a statement released on Friday by Hassan Musa Fagge, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor.
