The Federal Executive Council has granted approval for the allocation of N5.5 billion. This funding will be directed towards the construction of access roads serving communities along the Abuja light rail project.
The announcement was made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following the conclusion of this week’s Council meeting, which was chaired by President Bola Tinubu. Wike highlighted the President’s directive to ensure the timely completion of the Abuja light rail project and emphasized the need for access roads to facilitate commuter movement within the communities around the railway station.
The Abuja light rail project has been a significant development in the city, with an earlier commitment from the Chinese firm, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd (CCECC), to complete the $823 million project within eight months. However, the project faced delays, including an interruption during the COVID-19 lockdown.
