The Canadian Senate recently discussed Nollywood and Nigerian Afrobeats musician Burna Boy.
The Senate of the United States of America evaluated the development and internationalisation of Nigeria’s film and music industries.
Burna Boy’s success as a travelling performer was especially praised by Marcel Lebleu, Director General, West and Central African Bureau, Global Affairs Canada.
He praised the Grammy winner for becoming the first African to sell out Montreal’s storied Bell Centre twice in a row.

Lebleu said, “I don’t know if you know Burna Boy. He is an Afrobeats singer. He was in Montreal three weeks ago, sold out The Bell Centre twice. That’s about 35,000 people.
“He was also in Toronto. We don’t think about the culture industry a lot but this is an important industry. For example, Nollywood.”
The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman, Senator Peter Boehm, continued, saying, “I was listening to Burna Boy the other night.”
After the video went viral, Boehm also revealed on his verified X Twitter that he is a major admirer of Burna Boy.
He wrote, “Being tall, I continue to enjoy listening to @burnaboy ‘Twice as Tall’ (2020) on my playlist.”
