Celebration of tradition is a distinction that distinguishes people. In appreciating beliefs, the uniqueness of what binds the people together (tradition) is displayed.
Akabor Obiuno Otolo Nnewi, celebrated New Yam Festival as instructed by the deity, Ogwugwu Ochuba, through his mouthpiece, the high priest, Chima Ezimora. The festival is done annually, on the date chosen by Ogwugwu Ochuba.
The celebration commenced with a dance by the women worshippers, who danced from the shrine(place of worship) of Ogwugwu Ochuba, (behind the Nnofor Hall), through Orizu Road, and back to the shrine. Further into the celebration, was a dance performance by masqueraders.
Rituals to appeal to, thank and reverence the creator were performed with the blood of chicken and goats, with talks, and music which was done by local performers, all geared towards appreciating the creator for another bountiful year of harvest.
