A last-minute effort by the First Lady of Lagos state, Bolanle Ambode, to save her husband’s job has failed – Mrs Ambode was said to have waylaid Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to beg on behalf of her husband but her efforts did not yield any result – The meeting happened at Oshogbo, the Osun state capital, during the APC mega rally for the Osun state governorship election.

A report by Punch indicates that a last-minute effort by the First Lady of Lagos state, Bolanle Ambode, to save her husband’s job has failed. Mrs Ambode was said to have waylaid the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and tried to pacify him to change his mind on his hard stance against her husband.
According to the report, Bolanle followed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to Osun state for the APC mega rally held on Tuesday, September 18, for the state governorship candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, in order to meet Tinubu.
Sources quoted in the report said her efforts did not yield any result as Tinubu was said to have “received her cordially and joked with her.” “At a point, she became emotional despite the fact that many party leaders were there. But Asiwaju (Tinubu) did not give her the answer she desired. He merely treated her with courtesy,” one of the sources said.
Ambode’s political future has been under threat since Tinubu’s Mandate Movement, threw up the managing director of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to challenge the governor at the party’s primary scheduled for Tuesday, September 25.
Also in the race, is another strong contender, a former commissioner for works and Infrastructure, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who has the backing of an equally powerful group, the Justice Forum. The governor’s travail had attracted the intervention of the presidency and some governors, including Oyo state’s Senator Abiola Ajimobi that pleaded for reprieve for him. The chairmen of the 57 local council development areas in Lagos had also declared support for Sanwo-Olu.
Meanwhile, Governor Ambode will on Wednesday, September 19, know the fate of his second term bid as Tinubu meets with the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) to discuss the issue. NAIJ.com gathered that the GAC is Lagos state’s highest advisory political organ under the leadership of Tinubu.
The membership of the council, made up of the governor and leaders of the party across the three senatorial districts of the state, include, Dr. Olorunfemi Bashorun; Senator Anthony Adefuye, Prof. Tunde Samuel, Chief Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi and Cardinal James Odumbaku.
