Painful! ANSU GRADUATE DIES 24 HOURS TO CONVOCATION

It was a horrible experience on Friday, November 16, at about 9am, when a 2017 set graduate of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, aka Anambra State University, collapsed and died, at the Uli Campus of the university, just 24 hours to the university’s 2018 convocation ceremony holding at the Igbariam Campus of the school.

Anaedooline gathered that the 26 -year-old was doing his NYSC clearance in order to join his batch next week at the orientation camp in Ebonyi State where he was posted.

A student of the university, Udeafor Claudio, who is also an executive member of the Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students, NFCS, in the university, told our reporter that he was coming back from the chapel, where he had morning devotion with his colleagues when they saw the young man lying helplessly in the midst of women, who were praying for him; shouting “fire! fire! fire!

Eyewitness account had it that the young graduate was running helter skelter to complete his registration/ clearance in order to have time to prepare for his convocation holding on Saturday, November 17, at the Igbariam Campus; and also to meet up and proceed to the Orientation Camp in Ebonyi State next week before he collapsed and died at the spot.

He said, “When we were passing, on our way from the chapel, something attracted us to the Geology Department. I don’t
know the boy; I don’t know his past medical history, but I saw a
young guy holding a brown envelope indicating that he was doing his
clearance.

“The very few observers at the scene before we got there
said he was running along the geology department when he slumped
and hit his neck on a stone at a flower bed of Geology Department
building.

“When we got there, some women, who sweep the school compound
gathered and were praying, telling us not to touch him.

“Initially, we
thought it was convulsion, but I insisted we took
medical action.

“We rushed to the medical unit but it was locked; because Convocation Lecture was ongoing at Igbariam campus.

“One girl,
fondly called Jane Janny, who said she was a Masters student ran with me to beg a bus passing by to help us take him to the hospital but the man bluntly
refused, saying that he has business to attend to.

“We later got a hilux van that offered to help us. They carried us to the scene. While on the way to hospital, I got his phone and
called his dad and mum, asking if he had epilepsy; and what we should
do. We also called his aunty, who told us that somebody hit his head during his secondary school days, and since then, he has been having seizures.

“We got to Rex Hospital at Uli Center and when the doctor checked his pulse, he said he was dead.

” We didn’t give up. We got a shuttle and headed for our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala; where he was also checked by a Matron in the hospital and confirmed him dead.

“The NFCS President and I were asked not to leave until his parents came. His lecturers, who also came to the hospital confirmed he was a graduate of 2017 set, and had rounded up his course works; and was in school to tidy up certain things before leaving for Ebonyi State at the weekend.

“It was when some of his people I contacted came to
the hospital that the Matron permitted us to go.
