Nonso Okafor (Smart) Calls For Improved Welfare For Children

Anambra State House of Assembly Member-Elect for Nnewi North Constituency, Nonso Okafor (Smart), has called on all parents, teachers relevant security agencies and other organizations, to collaborate together towards improving the safety and welfare of children in Nnewi.

Nonso Okafor (Smart) made the call in his message to commemorate the 2019 Children’s Day celebration.

In his press release which was made available to Anaedoonline.com, Nonso Okafor noted that no society can grow beyond the quality of its children if given a solid foundation since they are the future of any thriving society.

He praised the spirit of excellence in the children in Nnewi, which have seen them emerge winners of different academic/sports competitions within and beyond the state.

He identified rape, sexual exploitation, child labour, poverty, dysfunctional families, corrupting influence of the media and breakdown of social values as the challenges currently facing children.

While calling for more efforts towards improving the welfare of children in Nnewi, he stated, “Just last month, a barbaric incident of sexual abuse of a four (4) years and six (6) years old girls in Nnewichi and Otolo was reported. Such ugly developments should not be allowed to continue, I call on teachers, caregivers, parents, the churches, organizations, securities agencies and other duty bearers in Nnewi, to intensify their efforts in making sure that the safety of our children from abuses and ensuring that that the conditions that endanger their educational, social and moral development is put to an end”

For the sake of a greater Nnewi, he encouraged parents and teachers to devote more time and attention in fortifying their children with quality education, moral and spiritual upbringing against the wave of the moral decadence in our society today.

While wishing the children in Nnewi, a Happy Children’s Day celebration, he reiterated his commitment in improving the welfare of every child, he promised to push for more government support for children, especially in the education and health sectors.
