[Recap] Afia-Olu Festival Nnewi is Back, Bolder, Bigger, Better And A Lifetime Experience
Let’s have a recap of Nnewi Afia Olu Festival 2018 which started on the 22nd of August and ended 25th of August, 2018 and What to expect in the 2019 Festival.
The Nnewi Afia Olu festival Kicked off last year with the grand opening ceremony at Eneta Edo Square, Nnewi, with the presence of the traditional rulers and Obis of the four quarters of Nnewi led by the paramount traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe K.O.N Orizu.

It continued with the introduction and welcoming of great sons and daughters of Nnewi who came for the festival as well as dignitaries, other traditional rulers and different personalities from far and wide who attended to experience, enjoy and grace the festival.
Different speeches were delivered by traditional rulers, sons, and daughters of Nnewi as well as dignitaries and visiting guests.

It was followed by the kick-off of the Nnewi Afia Olu Football Tournament in memory of Former Acting President of Nigeria, Dr. Akwaeke Abyssinia Nwafor Orizu, which Otolo emerged a the winner of the football tournament.
It was further continued with entertainment from different cultural groups, performing acts, different masquerade performances and lots more at different places in Nnewi which lasted for days.
The festival ended gracefully with His Royal Highness Igwe K.O.N Orizu to close the festival the obis and other traditional rulers.
what to expect in Nnewi Afia Olu Festival 2019?
As Afia-Olu Nnewi 2019 Festival draws close, Chairman of Afia-Olu Nnewi Festival for this year, Hon. Prince Moses Obi has assured all and sundry that preparations are in place to ensure a happy, free, and safe 2019 Afia-Olu Nnewi festival.
According to Prince Moses Obi, the Afia-Olu organising committee is working hard and round the clock to ensure that the festival is improved and better than what it has been in the past.
“Although finance has not reached its best, the committee has been working had to improve the finance and is reaching out to sons and daughters of Nnewi to improve the festival through any form of their support.”
As usual, the festival will have its football tournament as football teams representing the four quarters of Nnewi will compete against each other.

Speaking further, the Chairman said, “the committee is planning to add night entertainment with performing artiste, shows and lots more as part of the festival, to ensure that the audience have a great time and regard the festival as one to always look forward to every year.
A lot of measures are being made towards security in all ramifications during this period of Afia-Olu Festival. Security of lives, properties, and safe movement to enjoy night shows, masquerade performances and various other forms of entertainment is our top priority.”
The Afia-Olu Festival which is scheduled for Wednesday 28th – Saturday 31st August 2019, and will kick-off of at Eneta-Edo Square Uruagu Nnewi.
