Just few week into the presentation of the 2020 budget by Governor of Anambra state Willie Obiano, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Anambra state, Mark Okoye, has come out to say that the state government has set up what he terms efficiency unit to ensure that provisions allocated to ministries, departments, parastatals and agencies of government are deployed for the purpose they are meant for.
Okoye stated this at a news briefing in Awka, stating that the government was interested in the actual utilization and deployment of financial resources to meet the needs of the citizenry as it concerns social amenities and other infrastructures.
He said that the 2020 budget would place more priority attention on infrastructure, youth empowerment, and education, noting that the completion of strategic roads and bridges across the three senatorial zones of the state would gulp about N15 billion.
In his words “basic education and infrastructure intervention would consume about N3 billion while construction of modern health facilities would cost N1.5 billion. The state government’s community-choose-your-project initiative would amount to N2.6 billion.
Okoye further disclosed that street light projects across Anambra state would gulp the sum of N2 billion while N1.1 billion has been budgeted for waste disposal management.

Furthermore, the commissioner said N21 billion has been allocated to the state ministry of works, N7.4 billion provided for the health sector, basic education took N5.4 billion, public utilities and water resources has about N4.6 billion, tertiary and science has about N3 billion, environment about N2.8 billion, local government and Chieftaincy matters about N2.6 billion, agriculture about N2.6 billion while housing and urban development has about N3 billion budgetary provisions.
Others include house of assembly which has about N1.7 billion, youth empowerment and creative economy about N 1. 4 billion, lands about N1.7 billion, deputy governor’s office about N1 billion, ministry of justice about N1 billion, ministry of finance about N1.7 billion, geographic information system cum land administration reforms about N800 million, Anambra international cargo airport to gulp about N5 billion, Awka international stadium about N1billion, women and children affairs about N700 million, innovations cum industrial hubs about N200 million.
Okoye maintained that farm estates have about N1 billion budgetary provisions while funding of small and medium scale enterprises would cost about N1 billion too. Football pitches across the state would consume about N900 million while the state high court has about N678 million.
He said that the efficiency unit set up by the state government would ensure that the provisions of the 2020 budget appropriations were fully implemented to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Ndi-Anambra.
