Epileptic Power Supply Will Soon End In Nnewi – Obiano’s Aide.

Plans are underway towards ensuring that Nnewi Power demand of about 45MW is achieved as the town is receiving less than one-third of the expected 45MW.

Speaking in Nnewi, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Power, Energy and Water Resources, Hon. Engr. Victor Meju assured of the state government commitment towards ensuring that the perennial and inconsistent power supply in the industrial and commercial city of Nnewi ends.

Engr. Victor Meju gave the assurance at the Public Forum on patronage of Made-in-Nigeria (Nnewi) Goods and Services/Exhibition of Locally Manufactured Products which held on Wednesday, at Igwe Nnewi Palace.

Speaking during the public forum, the Governor’s Aide said that the current agreement between the State Government and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the company which owns and operates electricity transmission network system in the country and provides transmission services from one location to another, holds a lot of promises for Nnewi.

According to him, the first phase of the agreement will cover the construction of 2 by 60 MVA with 132/33 KV line at Oba (Ojoto), 2 by 60 MVA substation at Nnewi, then 60 MVA with 132/33 KV line at Onitsha.

Speaking on Governor Obiano’s continued commitment to give Nnewi a steady power supply, he said that despite the privatization of the Power Sector, the Governor has continued to pump in billions of Naira in the sector.

He said that the Governor spent N1.8 billion in upgrading the KVA line in Obosi, which officially put in motion the power injection substation. He revealed that the initial 18 KVA line was replaced with a 36 KVA, which is currently providing power to communities in Nnewi South and North, as well as Ihiala and Idemili South and North Council areas.

He said that the upgrade has ensured that Nnewi is having 16hrs power supply.

Speaking on other plans of the state government, he said that the Governor is working with the Federal Government towards ensuring the completion of Nnewi 2x60MVA 132/33KV Transmission Substation.

He noted that if completed, the power transmission will produce Six 33KV feeders that will sup­ply Nnewi and even the sur­rounding towns.

He said that the Governor is already planning ways to generate electricity, revealing that the state government is already discussing with a company to generate electricity through solar, admitting that the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) can only distribute Electricity on what is being generated.

He is also highlighted that the Governor has distributed hundreds of transformers to different communities in Anambra State with Nnewi among the top beneficiary.

He advised Nnewi residents to continue to support the Governor and also cooperate with EEDC towards ensuring that Nnewi power supply is increased.
