Pay Your Bills Or Risk Disconnection, EEDC To Nnewi Residents (Photos)

With N4 – N6 billion monthly expenditure on purchase of energy to service the South-East monthly, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has appealed to her customers in Nnewi to be prompt in payment of the electricity bills.

Speaking in Nnewi, a communication officer of EEDC, Mrs Patience Ezeagu and the Network Manager of EEDC in Nnewi, Engr. Emmanuel Udochukwu said that the recent huge investment in the vital distribution infrastructure of the company will ensure that customers enjoy power supply.

Speaking to Nnewi residents and traders during the Public Forum on patronage of Made-in-Nigeria (Nnewi) Goods and Services/Exhibition of Locally Manufactured Products which held on Wednesday, at Igwe Nnewi Palace, Mrs Patience Ezeagu, said that for EEDC to survive, customers should not relent in paying their bills.

Emphasising more on payment of bills, she said that EEDC purchase power with N4 – N6 billion monthly from the generating companies (Gencos), independent power providers and Niger Delta Holding Company (NIPP).

She said that failure to pay bills, EEDC will have not other option than to disconnect light in the place of the affected customer.

Speaking further, she frowned at the attitude of those who vandalise cables and steal transformer oil, urging resident to protect electrical installations within their neighbourhoods.

On payment of meter, she advised the customers to use the ongoing MAP to get their pre-paid meter and to eliminate all forms of estimated billing. She advised Nnewi residents to go to the EEDC office to register, make payment in the dedicated bank account as advised in the Demand Note, and not to any individual or group.

According to her, the Single-Phase Meter goes which costs N38,841.00 (Thirty-Eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-One Naira) and the Three Phase Meter which goes for N70,409.00 (Seventy Thousand, Four Hundred and Nine Naira) was not fixed by EEDC but the regulators.

On the rate of power supply, she emphasized that EEDC cannot guarantee steady power supply as they only distribute what is allocated to them which fluctuate between 300MW to 400MW depending on generation.

Queried about the estimated billing, she said that Estimated Billing was a Methodology stipulated by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), an independent regulatory body with authority for regulating the electric power industry in Nigeria.

On his own part, the Network Manager of EEDC in Nnewi, Engr. Emmanuel Udochukwu called on customers to help the company checkmate meter by-pass and energy theft within their localities.

He said that his team carried out community by community meter registration which covered the quarters in Nnewi, saying that those who are yet to register, should visit the EEDC office.
