Imo State commissioner Collapse

The commissioner for Petroleum and Environment, Imo State, Tony Okere, is dead. Okere died on Friday morning in an undisclosed hospital in Abuja after he had battled partial stroke for about six weeks.

He had collapsed during one of the executive council meetings which made the state government to rush him to a hospital.

Okere, who represented Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency of Imo State between 1999 and 2003, made no other public appearance after he collapsed at Government House during one of the executive council meeting.

Our correspondent saw government appointees discussing Okere’s death when he visited Government House.

A Government House source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the commissioner’s death affected the state Governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

The source said, “The governor was devastated by the death of his commissioner. He had to cancel state functions for the day.”
