NPFL: Enyimba Pip Rivers Utd 1-0 In Rescheduled Game

Enyimba International of Aba defeated Rivers United by a lone goal in a rescheduled Match Day 7 of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

From the blast of the whistle, the ‘People’s Elephants’ went straight into business by attacking their guests creating chances upon chances in the opening minutes.

Former Remo Stars player Victor Mbaoma who was deeply involved in a thick of the business of the day scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute from a free-kick.

It was a strongly struck free-kick just outside the box that Rivers United goalkeeper, Ospina Egbe could only push into his top right corner to give the home side a deserved lead.

In the 40th minute, the visiting side attempted to level the scores with Cletus Emotan selfishly going for personal glory when he had other options to play with his teammates. With the first half winding up, Mbaoma came close again with another free-kick but was unlucky as he couldn’t hit a brace.


At the restart of the match, Enyimba continued from where they stopped and would have scored more goals but they were denied by the heroics of Ospino who manned his area very well.

As the game wore on Orok Gabriel who was making his first start in the league was substituted after receiving a knock as well Theophilus Afelokhai getting booked for time wasting.

While Enyimba pushed to increase their tally, the visitors fought hard to level scores, but the result remained the same till the final whistle. Following this victory, Enyimba have earned their 4th league victory and have moved to the second position on 13 points behind Plateau United.
