The Family of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Nwagbala has threatened to commence legal action against the Nnewi Catholic Diocese if they fail to retract the statement issued by the spokesman of the Diocese.

It is will be recalled that few days after the death of the Parish Priest of St. Peter’s Clever Catholic Church Odida Nnewichi, Nnewi, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Nwagbala in his residence in a suspected fire explosion, the Chancellor of the Diocese, Very Rev. Fr Hyginus Aghaulor, through a press release, said that Very Rev. Fr. Edmund Nwagbala died from inhaling toxic fume from the inverter battery in his apartment which exploded. Nnewi Catholic Diocese Exposes What Killed Priest

He said that Rev. Fr. Aghaulor may have been inhaling slowly in his sleep the toxin from the burning battery which might have killed him before the actual fire burnt him.

According to him, it is very likely that the fire came from the inverter in his room. When it was heated up, the battery blew up like a bomb.

He said “Looking at late Fr. Edmund’s remains, he didn’t look like someone that struggled before dying”.

Reacting to the press release, the family of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Edmund Nwagbala of Nwagbala family of Okpuno Ebenator Uruagu Nnewi has to demand the immediate retraction of the statement issued and circulated by Nnewi Catholic Diocese on the cause of death of Rev. Fr. Edmund Nwagbala.

They also demanded that the said retraction shall be published in two local Newspapers as well as two National Newspapers.

Part of the letter which was signed by Chijioke Nwankwo Esq. reads;

DEMAND FOR IMMEDIATE RETRACTION OF A STATEMENT WHICH YOU ISSUED WITH RESPECT TO THE CAUSE OF DEATH OF REV. FR. EDMUND NWAGBALA

We are the solicitors to the Nwagbala family of Okpuno Ebenator Uruagu Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State represented by MR. FRANCIS NWAGBALA (EZEUGO) and MR. OLIVER NWAGBALA on whose behalf, mandate and instructions we are writing this letter. Our clients are the family members of Rev. Fr. Edmund Nwagbala.

In the early hours of Saturday, the 16th day of November 2019, the sad and untimely death of Rev. Fr. EDMUND NWAGBALA occurred through circumstances that are yet to be ascertained. While the situation was still
tense and fluid, and long before the commencement of any police investigation, you issued and circulated a statement which includes sentences inter alia:

The factual basis for the above-referred portions of your statement is not only false but unfounded. That statement which you issued in the tense moments
surrounding the horrendous demise of Rev. Fr. Edmund Nwagbala appeared on several media outlets and social media platforms”

The family however demanded the immediate retraction of the statement the Diocese issued and circulated on the cause of death of Rev. Fr. Edmund Nwagbala.

According to the letter, the retraction shall be published in two local Newspapers as well as two National Newspapers within seven days of their receipt of the letter.

They warned that refusal to comply with the terms of their letter, the family will commence legal actions against the Diocese.
