NAUS Condems Sex/Money For Grades In Tertiary Institutions

The sexual harassment and funds for grades in Tertiary Institutions is pervasive and absurd in Nigeria, It’s a barbaric and nonchalant act that requires strict urgent intervention and alacrity.

The leadership of National Association of University Students (NAUS) ably led by the National President, Comrade Felix Simon Ijegalu condemned the corruptible act continuous report on the issue of sexual assault and harassment in Nigeria tertiary institutions.

“It is no longer a news that sex for grades has rectangularly preoccupied the four corners of Nigerian tertiary institutions especially universities. It has elevated to an immoral tools used by female students in reciprocal for good grades from lecturers.”

He expressed disapproval over the undignified act of lecturers who should have act like a father, guidance and mentor, demeaning their standard in demands for money or sex from students for grades.

“It’s a global report that the academic terrain of West Africa institutions has been ridiculed and demerited to an events where cash and pleasure is utilized in exchange for degrees. While quick witted female students were victimized by lecturers for invulnerable satisfaction of their sexual urge.

“It is so pathetic that our academic terrain has been bedevilled with STDs (sexual transmitted Degrees), thereby transmitting from one students to another. This virus has generated to it’s peak, terminating innocent souls while attempt to abort.”

He further frowned at university students that abandoned there primary aim in the citadel of learning, failing to attends lectures, tutorials, library but relish to social aspect and gangsterism.

While pleading to Nigerian students to be studious and hardworking in achieving the educational pursuit and obliged to the set rules and regulations of their institutions as morals, disciplines is an integral part of learning in all institutions. Also warns lecturers to desist and eradicate the mindset of violating the ethnical consideration of their professions. It is unethical to demand/receive money or sex in reciprocal for grades from students

“The effect of this immorality and unethical consideration has drastically reduced the academic perception, learning, research and educational standard of Nigerian varsities.
“While many students find it easier to influence lecturers decision monetarily rather than self discipline in pursuant of their primary aim.”

While accepting that sex or monetary value for rewards is a national issue, not just exclusive for tertiary institutions, but extends to other Civil/public and private services

President Felix further called on National Universities Commission (NUC), a government commission promoting quality higher education in Nigeria and other relevant agencies as a matter of urgency to advice government on assessment of examination marking scripts within Nigerian universities alike Jamb process, and ensures that Examination and Records Unit within Nigerian Universities Monitor compliance with all university rules and regulations on conduct of examinations, oversees periodic communication of student academic learning performances to parents, sponsors and scholarship granting institutions.

“Ensuring strict adherence to rules and regulations governing all examinations as spelt out in the University examination hand book and supervises the conduct, monitoring and provision of other logistic support for all university examinations”

The President further wish to use this medium to draw the attention of Ministry of Education and recommend a possible resolution that ” they should established a sub agency under the supervision of NUC to monitor and supervises Exams and records of all Nigerian universities, whereby answer booklets of a university would be exported to another university for marking.

“This will unable lecturers to influence their selfish interest and decisions on students affairs hence drastically reduced the intersexual relationship amidst the duo.”
