The governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday, January 23, said that his predecessor, Rabiu Kwankwaso is making moves to return to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in Kano while receiving the newly defected chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Sulaiman Bichi, said Kwankwaso wants to return to APC to contest for presidency in 2023.

Ganduje said he (the governor) has identified Kwankwaso’s most pressing ambition as contesting for Nigeria’s presidency. However, noting that Kwankwaso is a kind-hearted person, Governor Ganduje said his predecessor is self-centered.

Stating that he only endured Kwankwaso for all the years they were close despite being aware of all his political tricks and deceptiveness, Ganduje said, his predecessor was never appreciative of whatever one does for him.

The governor said he won the election in 1999 but they had to reconcile to allow Kwankwaso to take leadership even after he paid for campaign posters and other materials. He said all through this time, Kwankwaso failed to handover the deputy governor slot to him (Ganduje) but later called him to serve as a special adviser to him during his tenure as minister.

The governor said that in all this he remained loyal to his then-boss although he rejected the appointment but later succumbed to accepting it.

Ganduje said Kwankwaso insisted that they should decamp to APC to enable him to actualise his presidential ambition for that period.

“After I won the election, I begged Kwankwaso to spare me his SSG, AG, press secretary and other officials. I also asked him to attend my inauguration but he refused. Instead, he said he will go to Kaduna.”

“I called this man nine times to find out whether he has arrived Kaduna safely, but he did not pick my calls,” the governor added.
