History: Man Killed While Trying To Arrest Shehu Shagari In 1983

It is important that history is brought back for the purpose of the younger generations, to enable them to learn from the mistakes of the past so they can avoid making such when they find themselves at the position of power.

Brigadier Ibrahim Bako who lived between 1941 to1983, was chosen to arrest President Shehu Shagari because his father was a personal friend to the president.

Unknown to Bako, the coup was leaked to Shagari and his guards were on high alert.

He was killed while attempting to arrest the president during the December 31, 1983, military coup that brought Major-General Muhammadu Buhari to power.

This tribe is Located among the bush-covered hills on the eastern side of the Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia, the Hamar tribe have a unique culture and customs, one of them being a cattle-jumping ceremony where the beatings of the women take place.

The ceremony starts with all the female relatives performing a dance, during which they offer themselves as subjects to be whipped by men who have recently been initiated.

The beatings go on until their backs turn bloody. During the beatings, women are not allowed to scream. They do not also flee the ceremony but rather beg the men to beat them repeatedly.

The women accept these beatings to show their love and support of the initiate, and their scars give them a right to demand his help in time of need.
