Anambra, regarded as “home for all” is really a good adjective to qualify a state with rich culture and tradition.

Anambra state is not just about business, trade, commerce, etc, it is also a state filled with a rich heritage, beautiful landscape, and nature that gives rise to lots of memorable attractions across the state, from caves to art centers and museums, to forests and wildlife, amongst others.

While some of these beautiful places attract attention and are popular, others though not popular can still give you an excursion and vacation experience. With this, I highlight core places you’d love to visit to feel the beauty of Anambra state. The list below

Ogbunike Cave

The cave is the most popular tourist attraction in the state, it is situated behind the Ogba hills in Ogbunike, Oyi local government area, guarded by a dense forest and beautiful waterfalls that run into Nkissa River.

The cave is made up of massive large tunnels that lead to various chambers, streams, and tunnels with varying lengths which served as safe havens for the villagers during the slave trade and there is no telling how long the cave is.

The cave and its waterfall also serve as a home for lots of bats, deer, antelopes, snakes, grass-cutters, porcupines, rabbits, alligators, fishes, crabs and birds. An annual festival (Ime Ogbe) is held in honor of the cave and the spirits guiding it.

Tourists are not allowed in with their shoes, women in their periods are not allowed in and of course, you’d need a torchlight to go into the cave and of course some cash to gain entrance.

A home for sacred crocodiles in their hundreds, located along Awka road in Agulu town, Aniocha local government. There are a lot of mysteries and histories surrounding its existence.

To date, some villages believe it belongs to a Deity named ‘Ndemili.’ It chooses who to harbor or drowns. The trado-spiritual beliefs make it a landmark for cultural tourist attraction.

The lake is wide and usually clear most times but changes to green by algae depending on the season of the year. The lake also serves as a habitat for fishes, aquatic animals, hundreds of crocodiles and water turtles.

The crocodiles and turtles head to the river bank to bask for sunlight and warmth at noon and hence, the best time to tour the lake for a beautiful natural view is towards that period. Fishing is forbidden and the animals are sacred.

The Historic forest is a rain-forest made up of tall evergreens, thick shrubs, and climbers. As the name implies, ‘Virgin Forest’ is the only forest in Nigeria that has neither been cultivated nor tamed by man to date, wow!

The forest harbors species of green plants and animals that have never been tamed by man and probably gone extinct in some countries. In the middle of the forest is a shrine presided by a high priest that protects and ensures her wholeness. It is located in Orumba local government.

The museum is the only private museum in the southeast located in Enugu-ukwu. The museum was established by Eze Nri to entertain guests and tourists, situated close to the king’s palace giving tourists the opportunity to tour the palace as well.

The museum contains a wide range of art collections, from monuments of past indigenous heroes to apparition centers (Sacred places believed to be unsafe for individuals owing to the presence of ghosts).

You can also purchase artworks from the museum or the craftsmen in the village because they are made there.

The cave and her waterfalls are one of the greatest natural attractions in the state but quite less popular like its other counterparts, situated in Owerre Ezeukala, Orumba South local government bordering Abia, Enugu, and Imo.

The waterfalls flow from a gigantic limestone rock formation that forms sparkling rainbow color as it hits piles of smaller rocks below it. The cave has a large compartment in the middle believed to be the living room of the gods and a deep complex that can accommodate the whole village.

The cave is considered the largest cave in West Africa with wonderful artworks of nature that would leave tourists dumbfounded.

The museum is located in Ngor village of Aguata local government, one of the few government owned museums in the southeast, founded in 1959. The archaeological artifacts were excavated as far back as 10 centuries ago – priceless yeah? These include ceramics, staff, ram heads, pieces of jewelry amongst others. The museum is regarded as the ancestral home of the Igbos and is divided into three chambers:

A shrine containing sacred vessels and regalia, A burial chamber of a man of considerable wealth and importance. Disposal pit for collection of other artworks.
