  • The United Nations (UN) has warned that countries around the world are at risk of widespread famines “of biblical proportions” if coronavirus, known as COVID-19 continues to bite.

David Beasley, Head of the World Food Programme (WFP), on Tuesday, called for an urgent action, saying, the number suffering from hunger could almost double from 135m to more than 250m.

  • The Nigerian government has postponed the Senior School Certificate Examination organised by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) for the year amid coronavirus outbreak.

Emeka Nwajubu, Minister of State for Education, who announced this during a press briefing on Tuesday, said students can learn online.

  • The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, on Tuesday, confirmed 117 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria to 782

NCDC in a tweet on its official Twitter page, disclosed that the confirmed cases were 59 in Lagos, 14 in Kano, 29 in FCT, 6 in Borno, 4 in Katsina, 3 in Ogun, 1 in Bauchi and 1 in Rivers.

  • Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Osuolale Richard Akinjide is dead.

The 88-year-old legal icon died in his Ibadan, Oyo State, home.

  • Willy Anumudu, the owner of Globe Motors, is dead; he was aged 68.

Anumudu was due to travel to Germany for treatment before his demise.

  • The federal government has disclosed that researchers in the country’s universities are working on a vaccine and cure for COVID-19.

It has also commenced local production of ventilators as part of efforts to ensure COVID-19 patients who require the intensive care equipment get them.

  • Two senior policemen have been killed at a factory in Adamawa State.
